A linocut afternoon in the Kent countryside

Adult Linocut Workshop with Hayley from Jackdaw & Bear
Venue: Bracken and Bloom, East Brabourne, Kent
When: Saturday 11th July 2026, 1:30 – 4:30 pm
Ages 16+ | Max 6 places

Slow down. Get creative. Make your mark.

Step away from the everyday and into a beautiful tipi nestled in a Kent countryside paddock, surrounded by the rolling hills of the North Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. This is your afternoon to breathe, create, and come home with something truly handmade.

Guided by Hayley from Jackdaw & Bear, you'll spend three relaxed hours learning the fundamentals of linocut printing from scratch — using the Kent countryside as your inspiration to create a print you'll be proud of.

No experience needed. Just bring yourself (maybe a friend), and get ready to make your mark.

What you'll do

Over the course of the afternoon, Hayley will guide you through every stage of the linocut process:

  • Explore & sketch — wander the paddock and gather inspiration from the surroundings. Templates and suggestions are available if you'd like them, or you are welcome to bring your own black and white sketches
  • Learn safe mark making — Hayley will demonstrate how to use the different carving tools, and you'll practise on tester blocks before committing to your design
  • Transfer & carve — work through image reversal, transfer your design to the block, then settle into the satisfying rhythm of carving
  • Ink up & print — move to the printing table to roll out your ink and press your block using our lever press, revealing your very own linocut print

You'll take home your A6 lino block and every print you pull during the session.

About your host

Hayley's background isn't just inspiration for the prints — it's in her bones. A former environmental conservation officer, she spent her career in the field: ecological surveys, habitat improvement, and running outdoor education and environmental arts sessions for people of all ages. That first-hand knowledge of British wildlife and seasonal landscapes is what makes her workshops genuinely different — and what you'll feel in the room.

Sessions are relaxed, hands-on, and open to complete beginners. No experience is needed — just curiosity and a willingness to get inky.

She'll also bring along a selection of Jackdaw & Bear prints and cards for you to browse, use as inspiration or buy as a memento of your afternoon.

The venue
Bracken And Bloom, East Brabourne

Tucked into a paddock on Parsonage Farm, Bracken & Bloom is a sustainable flower and gift shop housed in a shepherd's hut, stocking sustainable blooms and locally made homewares and decor —  the setting is every bit as beautiful as what's inside. The workshop takes place in a canvas tipi amid the rolling North Downs AONB: open skies, fresh air surrounded by trees and hedgerows- the perfect setting to be inspired by nature.

After your session, browse Kate's shepherd's hut for seasonal flowers and locally made gifts before heading home, inky fingers and all.
